The state was named the ideal place to have a baby in the US in 2023, according to a report from WalletHub. The financial news site looked at the cost of giving birth and access to health care, as well as other factors.

Minnesota and Vermont were number two and three, respectively, in baby birthing metrics. The two states scored only a few points behind Massachusetts's overall rating of 69.31.

Massachusetts came in first in healthcare accessibility, baby-friendliness, and family-friendliness, although it was among the worst in the nation for one major factor: cost.

The average conventional delivery in the US costs over $2,600 with insurance and nearly $15,000 without. New parents in Massachusetts will feel a deeper pinch to their wallets as the state finished 42nd in the nation, including Washington, D.C., for the cost of giving birth.

The worst states to give birth, according to the survey, were all in the South: South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi scored the lowest in healthcare accessibility, baby-friendliness, and family-friendliness.
